64 Year Old William Pfeifer Was Awarded $22.7 Million In A Mesothelioma Verdict

Mesothelioma is form of cancer which is caused due to prolonged exposure to asbestos fibers. This is a very common type of cancer in those workplaces where asbestos is used.

In California white asbestos is the most common type of asbestos. The worst part of diseases due to asbestos exposure is that it is incurable in most of the cases and it has got very poor prognosis results; due to this strict laws for asbestos exposure had been made in USA which includes very high compensation to the victim.

In one of such cases in Dallas, Texas 64 year old William Pfeifer got compensation worth $22.7 million. William Pfeifer is a resident of California and he was diagnosed for mesothelioma in 2009. He worked as a boiler operator in John Crane Inc for 30 years. He had to work at many places for the same job and in one of the instances he was posted to US Navy where he did the work of operating of boiler. He was given gaskets and other outfits by his firm John Crane but these security measures didn’t worked against asbestos exposure.

In the eight hour long hearing which included arguments of asbestos lawyers the insulating jury established that William Pfeifer was exposed to deadly fibers due to the negligence of John Crane Inc. which failed to warn their customers and employees about the dangers of working with their products.

In accordance to the mesothelioama verdict, $14.5 million was given for punitive damages and $8.2 million was awarded towards compensatory damages. Plaintiff attorney team included Jay E. Steumke and Rob Green of Simon, Eddins and Greenstone, LLP, Dallas Texas. This verdict also gave powerful message to companies who risk the life of their employees for their short term financial benefits.
