OTHER ASBESTOS EXPOSURE SOURCES:

Asbestos in California and EPA

EPA stands for Environmental Protection Agency. It is the leading authority in the United States when it comes to protecting the people by protecting the environment. They have been concerned with reports from California stating that new areas with naturally occurring asbestos have been discovered, under the form of vermiculite infected with the mineral or chrysotile asbestos.

Asbestos EPA regulations in California

General EPA asbestos regulations are established in order to protect the environment, or rather to make it safe for people, and it includes the following:

  • Regulations on asbestos disposal processes
  • Maintaining of disposal sites specially created for asbestos and other hazardous waste
  • Regulating the usage of asbestos in factories, and any asbestos shipment from outside of the country (the United States has stopped mining of this mineral)

EPA hazard regions in California

EPA has been testing several suspicious areas with asbestos in California, and we think that it would be wise for you to know asbestos sites where you could be exposed to asbestos fibers. The soil in these regions contains the small particles of the deadly mineral, and when traveled upon, dust is kicked up, allowing for airborne asbestos exposure to take place. We recommend that you contact EPA and ask for the full asbestos fact sheets, or at least a map of the dangerous areas.

The banned of asbestos in California was also approved by the EPA in the late 1970’s, and after that, they have been developing new waste codes and regulations for region 6 (the map of the United States has been separated in several regions). All these rules and asbestos notification have been included in the AHERA (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act) in 1986, and have been part of the rules asbestos abatement contractors follow ever since.

The EPA has stated in recent conference that they will not seize activity until asbestos has been banned completely, even from factories and other areas where the large companies say it is an absolute necessity. The proof of their statement does not arrive late, while asbestos testing near the hills of El Dorado has started short after the conference. This is the newest region discovered, suspicious of containing naturally occurring asbestos.
